The Woman Behind the Wig

How a Godwin Student is Showing her Pride

Godwin High School is known for its unmatchable pride and enthusiastic school spirit, shown through student-led pep rallies, rival football games, and more.

However, out of all of the prideful students at our school, one student shows her eagle spirit in her own unique way.

Godwin Junior Molly Chapman is a member of the Junior Class Council and a strong academic student who frequents Godwin sporting events wearing various wigs fitting the theme for that game.

If you go to a Godwin basketball game, you may see Chapman sporting a spiky pink wig for a pink-out game or a red bob to show off our Godwin colors.

Chapman has steadily grown her collection since her freshman year when she first wore a wig to a red-out football game.

“I have had a dress-up bin all my life and decided to look in there to see if I had anything that I could wear,” said Chapman. “That’s where I found my red wig, which my mom had worn for a Heat Miser Halloween costume. When I saw it, I knew it would be perfect for the game.”

Chapman’s pride doesn’t stop at dressing up for sporting events. As an active member of the class council and student in the Principles of Leadership class at Godwin, Chapman is constantly looking for ways to improve our school and show her spirit.

When asked why she chose to spend her time taking Principles of Leadership, Chapman said, “I took this class because I felt that with my unique part in Godwin’s community, I would be able to share my love of the school with even more students!”

Chapman’s role on the class council also allows her to take on a leadership role at our school as she helps to plan various school-sanctioned events, such as spirit days, prom, the homecoming parade, and trunk or treat.

“I am so thankful for my position because it gives me not only the opportunity to participate,” said Chapman, “but I am also able to spread more information about events to students who may be hesitant to get involved.”

Although some students may feel wary about expressing themselves, Chapman is a role model for anyone hesitant to show their pride.

“I have never been shy about showing school spirit,” said Chapman, “and although I was taking a step out of my comfort zone, I am so glad that I did!”

Chapman continues to grow her wig collection for different functions, from purchases at Party City and post-Halloween sales at Spirit Halloween to birthday gifts from friends.
