The Godwin baseball team’s successful season came to an abrupt end Wednesday, June 4 with a 9-1 loss to a powerful Douglass Freeman team.
The Godwin Eagles hosted a track meet against several schools including Deep Run, Freeman, Hermitage, J.R. Tucker, John Marshall, Maggie Walker, Patrick Henry, and Thomas Jefferson on April 2.
The Eagles’ boys team finished in second place overall. “It was a strong start to our season,” said head coach Jon Lauder.
One of the individual champions for the Eagles was junior Justice Williams. Although he was behind early in the Conference Title match, Williams won the 220 pound weight class by pin.
Longtime rivals, Godwin and Freeman, met again on Friday night at Godwin High School.
The Godwin boys’ volleyball team suffered a loss to district rival Freeman on Tuesday night.
