After serving the Godwin community for 15 years, attendance secretary Rebecca “Becky” Jones has decided to retire.
Jones began the same year as government teacher Julie Richardson and Spanish teacher Marina Andueza.
Prior to her job as attendance secretary, Jones taught history at Godwin. Her love of learning kept her at Godwin and kept her motivated to work with students.
“She loved learning and often told me that there was not a college that she did not like, but her favorite is UVa,” said senior Kate Hardin.
Hardin worked closely with Jones in the attendance office as a student aid, as a junior and again this year as a senior.
“We will miss her so much. Ms. Jones is so kind and would go out of her way to help anyone,” said Hardin.
To celebrate her career at Godwin, Hardin planned a party after school on Oct. 30. According to Richardson, 75 people attended to wish Jones a pleasant retirement.
“It was a wonderful get-together, and great to see so many people who loved and respected Ms. Jones as much as I did,” said Hardin.
Jones has plans to return to Godwin as a tutor to continue her history of helping students.
To replace Jones is Godwin instructional assistant Nancy Winston.
“This isn’t an easy job, but Mrs. Winston is doing great,” said Hardin.
