Baseball ends a successful season

The Godwin baseball team’s successful season came to an abrupt end Wednesday, June 4 with a 9-1 loss to a powerful Douglass Freeman team.

The Eagles finished their season with a record of 18-6.

“We competed extremely well in the playoffs this season behind strong pitching performances from Sr. Nick Stancil and Sr. David Parkinson,” said head baseball coach John Fletcher.

The team considers this season a huge success, as they were not expected to make it very far in the playoffs.

“We won a lot of close games with smart plays, good defense and solid pitching.  We have been underrated the entire year but our record doesn’t lie,” said Parkinson

Although the Eagles had a winning season, they are still looking forward to next year because of many returning players.

“We look forward to continued success next year with the return of underclassmen starters Matthew Jones, Will Parcell, Ryan Grubbs, Caleb Butler, Chris Minneci, Cal O’Donnell and a group of JV players that had a very successful season,” said Fletcher.
