GHS Swimming declared state champs!

On Saturday, Feb. 19, the Godwin Swim Team won the VHSL state championship. 

Positions:

  • The men’s team won overall
  • The women’s team finished 3rd overall

Individual Champions:

  • Senior Zoe Dixon with 200 Individual Medley with a time of 1:56.29
  • Dixon with 100 Backstroke with a time of 53.53.
  • Men’s 400 Freestyle Relay with a time of 3:09.91. The team was composed of freshman Eric Lambert, junior Seamus Connell, senior Sam Rivas, and senior Nate Pfeffer.

Godwin Swim Team New Record Holders:

  • Sophomore Kiera Reid with Women’s 200m Freestyle with a time of 1:56.00.
  • Dixon with 200 Individual Medley with a time of 1:56.29
  • Dixon with 100 Backstroke with a time of 53.53.
  • Women’s 400 Freestyle Relay with a time of 3:31.72. The team was composed of Senior Zoe Gallagher, Junior Ava McKinney, Brooke Nelson, and Dixon.
  • Men’s 400 Freestyle Relay with a time of 3:09.91. The team was composed of Lambert, Connell, Rivas, and Pfeffer.

The girls relay was a tight race between Deep Run and Godwin. 

In a quote given by Godwin Swim Coach Katrina Gauntt to the Richmond Time-Dispatch: “I will tell you, I’ve never screamed so loud than when it was announced the girls won.”

Gauntt also complimented how well the boys did in their relay, specifically Lambert. She told the Richmond Time-Dispatch: “Eric is 100% focused all the time, I really have never had a kid so young and in the zone as he is.”

Pfeffer was happy and proud about winning the state championship. 

“It feels amazing [to be a state champion]. I worked super hard to bring this 41st state title to Godwin, couldn’t have done it without a better team,” said Pfeffer.
