Godwin’s New Clubs Lead the Way

This year, Godwin’s students have stepped up tremendously with new clubs being added. Now, there are so many new ways to connect, embrace, and make an impact on your community, which is all thanks to three new clubs being introduced to students. Bhangra Club, Project UNITY, and Service Club. Each of these groups brings a new personality to Godwin and its students. It also brings a new, unique spirit to the school, whether through dance, activism, or performance. These clubs showcase a new beginning for Godwin’s culture.

One of the groups making a comeback is the Godwin Service Club. Once known as Key Club, the officers of the Service Club are determined to rebuild and reshape it back to Key Club. Godwin sophomore and Service Club Vice-President, shared, “We do a lot of community service, it’s good for people to get their hours in.” The club’s goal is to be reinstated as Key Club while also keeping students engaged through volunteer opportunities. Additionally, Godwin Service Club is still making its uprisings to be helpful towards Godwin and its community..

Meanwhile, the Bhangra Club introduces Godwin to one of the most vibrant and energetic dance traditions from Punjab and India. Members gather to learn choreography, celebrate culture, and give high-energy performances. Students hope to bring the exciting energy, culture, and inclusivity to Godwin. Godwin sophomore and co-Historian, Hazel Batra, shared, “ Bhangra means a lot to me, I can express myself through dancing and express culture.” Hazel has helped start this club along with her friends to express the culture of Bhangra. The group hopes to grow its membership and even participate in competitions.

Hazel has been dancing since she was eight years old and sees the club as a way to both connect with her culture and express herself. She shared that “Bhangra not only creates an impact on me, but many other students here; we want it so that others can express themselves freely.” Bhangra combines upbeat music with powerful moves, colorful outfits, and sometimes props like sticks or scarves.

Another new club at Godwin this year is the Project UNITY Club. Godwin Junior Tanusiya Debnath explained, “We wanted to bring Project UNITY’s mission to Godwin because we believe it’s the perfect place to spread UNITY’s message of youth empowerment and advocacy.” The group’s main goal this year is to gather members, build community connections, and lay the groundwork for larger projects in the future. Tanusiya also added, “We hope that our club can raise awareness about the many aspects of public health and especially public health concerns in our community.” With this being said, Project UNITY’s goals are to make Godwin’s students more empowered and unified.
Together, these clubs show the diversity of Godwin’s student body. Whether through service projects or cultural performances, they reflect how students are eager to build community and share what matters most to them. More than just after-school activities, they represent opportunities for growth, leadership, and connection. With motivated leaders, Godwin’s newest clubs are not only shaping this school year, they’re laying the groundwork for traditions and opportunities that could inspire students for years to come.
