The Micah Parsons Trade Saga

On Aug. 28, Dallas Cowboys star Micah Parsons was traded to the Green Bay Packers. He was traded for two first-round draft picks and Packers defensive tackle Kenny Clark. This trade resulted from a series of stalled contract negotiations between Parsons and the Cowboys. After being traded, Parsons signed a four-year $188 million contract with $120 million fully guaranteed.
Parsons is now the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. Parsons is one of the most talented young defensive players in the league.
His resume over the past four years is imposing, featuring a defensive rookie of the year award, multiple first-team All-Pros, and a consistent contender for the Defensive Player of the Year award.
Parsons has averaged 14.2 sacks in his 4 years in the league. He had already made a statement in his rookie year when he had 13 sacks, 84 total tackles, 3 forced fumbles, and got the defensive rookie of the year, along with being 2nd for defensive player of the year.
All of this contract drama had been going on behind the scenes for the entire 2024 season, but it really picked up on Aug. 1 when Parsons requested a trade from the Cowboys.
Parsons went on to the social media platform X to express his frustration, and he explainedhow he did everything he could to show that he wanted to be a Dallas Cowboy. “I no longer want to be held to closed-door negotiations without my agent present,” Parsons stated.
In the X post, he explained that he’d been trying to get a contract with the Cowboys done as far back as the start of the 2024 season, but every time Parsons’ agent tried to get a deal, the Cowboys stayed silent. However, during the preseason, Parsons was seen lying down on a massage table during the game, sparking some more controversy.
At this point, it was very clear that Parsons was done with the Cowboys and wanted to play for a different team.
This trade impacts the Cowboy’s defense substantially while they get a solid player in Kenny Clark, who had 37 total tackles and one sack.
Trevon Diggs and other Cowboys players have expressed their frustration with this whole dilemma. The star corner reassured the media that Parsons was a great teammate after many allegations that said he was a horrible teammate.
On the other hand, this trade makes the Packers a Super Bowl-contending team. They already have a great offense, and on defense, they have many great players and adding Parsons just makes this team way better.
