“The Summer I Turned Pretty” is a popular coming-of-age TV show that streams on Amazon Prime Video. The popular TV series is based on the book trilogy under the same name that releases a new episode each Wednesday for viewers to watch.
Lola Tung stars as the main character, Belly Conklin, who is constantly caught in a love triangle with her mom’s best friend’s two sons, Jeremiah and Conrad Fisher.
Every year, she goes to a beach house with her family and the Fishers, but this summer feels different for her. She starts to change, and the two boys she’s known forever, Conrad and Jeremiah, start to notice her in a new way.
As the story unfolds, fans become deeply invested— not just in the characters but in the relationships that develop. Viewers and readers connect with Belly’s emotions as she deals with the pressure of choosing between two people she cares about.
The ups and downs of her journey keep people guessing, and it’s sparked a huge conversation online and in real life.
Lots of fans love the book because they enjoy the love story between Belly, Conrad, and Jeremiah, picking teams, such as “Team Conrad,” or “Team Jeremiah.”
The book has fun summer scenes, but also shows real emotions like love, sadness, and growing up.
Many readers say they feel close to the characters and want to know what happens next.
When the TV show came out, the story became even more popular because it allowed the fans to have a visual of their story. It showed the beach, the houses, the characters, and even played trending music.
People shared videos of their favorite scenes on TikTok and Instagram. Some fans read the book because they loved the show and vice versa.
Now, everyone is talking about Belly, Conrad, and Jeremiah. People wear shirts that say their team, make fan art, write comments, and wait for the next episode weekly. Readers and viewers can’t wait to see what happens next. That’s why “The Summer I Turned Pretty” is such a big hit.
Both the show and the book were produced by American author Jenny Han. Each season of the show corresponds with each given book.
Han published the first book of the series on May 5, 2009. The second book, “It’s Not Summer Without You” was released in 2010, and the third, “We’ll Always Have Summer” in 2011.
The first season of the TV series didn’t premiere until 11 years after that on June 8, 2022. Since then, the show has gotten so popular that they even renewed it for a second (2023) and a third (2025) season. Unfortunately for avid watchers, season three is the last season of this show.
Many students are on Team Conrad and hope that Belly ends up with him in the end. Godwin sophomore Remi Dotson called it “Connie baby endgame,” and others sophomores, like Hannah Gilliland and Lorelei Walsh, agreed that Conrad is the right choice.
Only a few students said they were on Team Jeremiah, such as Godwin senior Kallee Hess, who said, “I am on Team Jeremiah, but I don’t think they should get married.”
When asked about favorite scenes, students talked about the emotional beach fight between Belly and Conrad, the dance scene with Taylor and Steven, and cute moments like the “peaches” scene, most students agreed that Taylor and Steven should be together, and almost everyone said they do not like Denise as a love interest.
Students had different thoughts about the show ending. Some, like Godwin freshman Cameron Martin, are anticipatin ghte show’s end, saying, “I am happy because it just needs to be over. Like, they’re dragging it.” However, others were sad to say goodbye.
When it comes to weekly episodes, students were split — a few liked waiting each week, but many said they’d rather binge the whole season at once. Most are fine with Prime Video, but a couple of people said they wish it were on Netflix instead.
With strong opinions about the couples and how it all ends, fans are definitely not ready to stop talking about “The Summer I Turned Pretty.”
