The RVA Amphitheater: Setting The Stage

The Richmond Riverfront Amphitheater is currently under construction and is planning to set the stage for the hottest new artists in the Summer of 2025.

The venue was first announced in the summer of 2022 and was planned to be finished by May 2024 but forced to be delayed due to logistical obstacles and infrastructure issues.

Richmond’s city council has decided to allocate a budget of $30 million to the amphitheater.

“I want to thank the City Council for passing these generational-investment projects for our city. Richmond is on a fast track to record development and growth. From a new Amphitheater to the Diamond District, to a potentially brand new destination resort, Richmond is attracting investments and development from across the country.” said Richmond’s Mayor Levar Stoney.

The Amphitheater is located on Second Street, 470 Tredegars Street just a walking distance away from Brown’s Island Way, and is about four acres of land downtown and next to the American Civil War museum. It can hold up to 7,500 people.

The land’s owner, NewMarket Corporation has agreed to give out a lease on the land to the companies working on the venue. When you are at the Amphitheater, you can see the view of the James River.

A partnership between Live Nation and Red Light Events made the Amphitheater. Red Light Events promised fans that they would bring the best artists to this amphitheater for all fans. With Live Nations being number one’s biggest concert promoter, they will provide a hospitality program with food and drinks for all artists who perform at the venue. Live Nations is also staying green with its sustainability plan by reducing the use of plastic and waste and promoting recycling, composition, and food donations.

The venue also allows people to have non-profit events like graduation and cultural events, and it will be able to have 25 to 35 concerts a year.

The location of the amphitheater has hosted many events before from the Folk Festival to Friday Cheers. Many available parking lots also include bikes and scooters within walking distance of the venue. The venue is also close to Interstate 95 and 64, and the Downtown Expressway.

Every year, the venue makes about $30.6 million a year from the visitors’ spending.
“Richmond is known for its vibrant arts and music scene, but too many but for too many years, big-name artists have bypassed the city because it didn’t have a suitable venue. This spectacular location offers the ideal place to showcase and build upon the growing energy surrounding Richmond’s riverfront,”  said Coran Capshaw, founder of the music industry leader Red Light Ventures.
