Godwin hosted its 17th annual Mr. Mills E. Godwin (Mr.MG) pageant on Saturday, Feb. 5th. Mr. MG is an all-male variety show that raises money in support of the Make a Wish Foundation. This year Godwin students, faculty, staff, and families raised over $4,000 to support the organization.
This year’s contestants included seniors Ryan Poquis, Blake Harrington, Andrew Beck, Ian Wolfe, Jay Davis, Cole Gaucher, Namit Nallapaneni, Alex Shupp, Akul Miriyala, and juniors Connor Hennesey, Grayson Jacey, and Austin Weiss.
To kick off the show, all contestants performed a choreographed dance to a variety of popular songs including “24k Magic” by Bruno Mars, “Let’s Groove” by Earth, Wind & Fire, “California Gurls” by Katy Perry and Snoop Dogg, “Hips Don’t Lie” by Shakira, “Suit and Tie” by Justin Timberlake, “It’s Tricky” by Run-D.M.C., and “Shake It Off” by Taylor Swift.
The show consisted of three rounds. A character act, a talent act, and a final round of questions would be used to determine the winner.
This year’s panel of judges included Godwin faculty member Thomas Threatt and Representative Abbey Quinn from the Make a Wish Foundation.
The character round featured a performance from all 11 contestants some including Poquis’s Sunflower song and dance, “Jay Davis’s Day Off”, a spinoff of the movie “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”, and Nallapaneni’s Center Kid turned Frat Guy skit.
Next up was the talent round with performances from Davis, carrying out an interpretive dance to “Chandelier” by Sia, Poquis performing a song while playing guitar, and another guitar performance from Nallapaneni.
The third and final round was a question round. The final contestants were responsible for answering a question asked by the judges to determine a winner. Some questions included “why is becoming Mr.MG important to you?” and “what are three words that describe you?”
After the question round the judges were faced with a tough decision, who was to be crowned the 2021-2022 Mr.Mg? After careful evaluation and reasoning from the judges, senior Ryan Poquis was crowned this year’s Mr. MG, with Blake Harrington as the second runner up and Alex Shupp as the first.
