As students and teachers return to Godwin this school year, they will notice slight changes to the roads and parking lots at and around Godwin.
Over the summer, Henrico County paved parts of the Godwin parking lot, including the teacher parking lots and the bus ramp.
Although not affiliated with Henrico County Public Schools, Pump Rd. was also paved this summer.
Patchwork in the parking lot happens every summer, but it has been quite a while since paving has been done.
“Henrico County paving projects have recently received their funding from the meals tax that folks pay when they eat at restaurants in Henrico County,” said Godwin principal Leigh Dunavant
However, not included in this year’s paving plans were the junior and senior parking lots, despite student complaints over potholes during the 2016-2017 school year.
“The parking lots that were paved this summer were phase one of the project, and the junior and senior lots are phase two,” said Dunavant.
The date that phase two will be finished is still unknown.
During the summer of 2016 and the 2016-2017 school year, many potholes were filled at Godwin. However, due to weather and wear and tear, a large number of the potholes are reforming and may need extra work done, which will possibly be done during phase two of the project in addition to paving.
There have also been other projects done at Godwin over this summer, including: painting the clinic, repairs in the chorus room as well as two science rooms, and other minor painting throughout the school.
