Every year, Godwin hosts an annual Poetry Out Loud Competition. Students prepare a set of poems for their participating English class, and then, a select few of those students move on to the next round. The selected students, next, preformed their poems for a panel of judges in the Godwin auditorium.
This year’s winner was sophomore Riley Harper reciting The Light the Dead See by Frank Stanford and Another Feeling by Ruth Stone.
Sophomore Michael Buncher was runner-up and he recited Anthem for Doomed Youth by Wilfred Owen and All Hallows’ Eve by Dorothea Tanning.
Harper and Buncher will go on to compete at the Regional Tournament against ten other schools, such as St. Catherine’s and Freeman. The Tournament will take place at Richmond Center Stage on Monday, February 6, 2017.
