Are you attending holiday parties but you have no idea what to wear? After looking at this winter’s trends, I compiled a list of nice holiday pieces that you can dress up or down for every occasion.
VELVET:
Velvet is the fabric of the season, meaning both winter and the popularity. Everything is velvet; tops, skirts, shoes, chokers. Incorporating velvet in to your look is a great way to make an outfit look (and feel) nicer, as well as showing a bit of holiday spirit. Maroon velvet is my personal favorite, but forest green and black are also great staples. If you’re dressing up for a holiday party, try pairing a velvet skirt with heeled black boots and a black jacket. If you love wearing jeans, you can pair black jeans with a velvet top to instantly bring a bit of fanciness to your look.
EMBELLISHED JEAN:
This jacket is a really cool piece that can bring something extra to an otherwise plain looking outfit. Because the jackets are such a statement piece, they look good with something simple; for example, a plain white t-shirt, a black slip dress, sheer black tights or fishnets, and black boots. Holiday parties and events are about staying warm but also showing a bit of shine or embellishment, and these jackets do just that!
DUSTER COATS:
Like the embellished jackets, this jacket is a bit out there, but when added to the perfect outfit, it can be a great accessory. I would recommend sticking with more basic colors and not going with patterns if you are adding a cheetah print coat, just to not have your look get lost with clashing patterns. Duster coats in general are great, because they are usually light enough you can keep them on inside, but heavy enough that if you have a scarf, they are able to keep you warm. My go to outfit with a duster coat is black skinny jeans, statement heels, and a tied up white t-shirt.
EMBROIDERED HEELS:
These shoes (1st) are so great for a party, because you can slip on a simple dress and throw your hair in a bun, but if you put these shoes on everyone will be complimenting your outfit. These shoes (2nd) bring in the embroidery trend without going over-the-top, and it’s a classy way to show some sparkle. Also, the block heel makes them easier to stand in than the classic pump, so they’re perfect for a party!
EMBELLISHED DRESSES:
So much sparkle! For these dresses, the accessories should be kept to a minimum, but they’re cool and unique dresses that bring a lot of shine to any party. If you add sheer black tights and heeled black boots, you’ll instantly have a shimmery cool-girl vibe. If it’s cold outside I would recommend a light-wash oversized denim jacket or, to dress the look up more, a black duster coat.
METALLICS:
Both of the outfits pictured are exactly how I would style metallic looks for a party. With the slip dress, I love the sheer tights + black boots combo, and to accessorize I would add a black choker with hair up. For the skirt, a mini skirt with an oversized sweater is such a nice combination, because it brings comfort and mixes it with style, making it just fancy enough for a party due to the metallic skirt. Because it’s winter I would add black tights to the skirt (keep your legs warm!), but the styling keeps the whole look very classy.
SUITS AND CO-ORDS:
I’m such a fan of matching sets with clothing, and I think they are a good purchase for the winter season for a couple of reasons. First, you can wear the pieces separately and make many different outfits. Secondly, when warn together with a heel, the look becomes immediately dressy! Co-ords come in so many variations, and many online shopping sites have co-ord searches where you can see the two pieces together. I think a matching set, whether the jacket is with pants or a skirt, is a cool way to look put together and stylish.
