The weekend of March 21 the Godwin Robotics team competed at the Virginia Regional against 63 teams from other high schools in Virginia and as well as two teams from the Netherlands and Brazil.
Godwin placed fourth after the elimination matches which earned them regional finalists. In both the qualification rounds and elimination rounds Talon 540 had the highest single round points total with 123 points and 155 points.
Due to Tucker High School already qualifying for the World Championships, Godwin was able to earn one of the last two wild card spots. The World Championship will take place in Saint Louis, Missouri.
Talon 540 also received an award for the programming and electrical’s development of a camera that allowed the driver to see from the robot’s point of view.
Junior Uday Patil, received the first Dean’s List Award and has a chance to be one of twenty finalists to receive the award at the World Championship.
“We had six weeks of build and we worked hard but it all payed off. We produced better quality than the teams who had more time than us to work. I was very pleased with how my kids persevered,” said Mr. Hurlburt.
