On February 27, Godwin sent several members of the girls track team to compete in the state meet. They returned with several individual medals.

Senior Bria Anderson competed in two events, placing first in the girls high jump by over a foot. “I just stuck with the plan Coach Scott gave me and was able to have a great jump,” said Anderson. She also participated in the 300 meter sprint.

Godwin continued the day with a state championship in the girls 4×800 meter relay, featuring seniors Katherine Benfer, Marin Bader, Hannah Bullen and junior Sarah Goodrich.  The team not only won the state title, but also set a new school record of 9:25. “It was really exciting because we’ve been building a bond since the summer, so it was great to be champions with them,” said Bullen.

Benfer also competed in the 3200 meter run and won the race as the individual state champion. “It was really special because there were a lot of great girls running,” said Benfer. Goodrich also placed second in the 1000 meter run and Bullen finished fourth in the 1600.

Other competitors at the state meet include sophmore Madison Philhower, who finished third in pole vault, and junior Duncan Goodrich who finished fourth in the boys 500 meter.

Overall Godwin girls placed second at the state meet with only six competitors.

The 4×800 team and Anderson got the opportunity to compete at Nationals in New York City on March 14.  The 4×800 team placed 15th overall.
