The Godwin girls’ volleyball team added another win to their undefeated record on Sept. 25 when they defeated the Freeman Rebels.
The Eagles took the first set with a final score of 25-10 with kills from sophomore Mackenzie Brewer, senior Laura Devlin, and senior Eva Lambert. Senior Brady Brown also had a number of assists.
The second set consisted of blocks by Lambert, several spikes from Brewer, and a crucial kill by Godwin’s setter, Brown. The final score of the second set was 25-16 Godwin.
In the third set there were spikes from Brewer, Devlin, and juniors Brooke Taylor and Navia Higgins. Freshmen Nora Saxman had 15 digs and Brewer had 22 digs. Lambert was voted player of the match by their coach for getting all three game winning kills.
The final score for the third set was 25-14 for a Godwin sweep. The record in their district now is 9-0. “I thought it was a big statement match and a great opportunity for us to prepare for this weekend,” said Godwin head coach Chris Wakefield.
The girls played in a tournament during Sept. 28 and 29 and came in 2nd place. Even though they lost in the tournament, it doesn’t count against their school record. Also they’re set to host Deep Run on Oct. 15. “I’m really looking forward to playing Deep Run. It should be great game so please come out and support us,” said Saxman.
“I think we played really well because, we kept our energy up and stayed focused; we loved our fans,” said Brewer.
