O’Sullivan named Most Valuable Eagle

Andrew O’Sullivan has been selected as Godwin’s Most Valuable Eagle for 2013- 2014.

The Most Valuable Eagle award is given annually to a senior who students and teachers believe best represents the ideal Godwin student -one who is not only determined inside the classroom, but also is involved with many extracurricular activities and active within the student body.

Each student from the senior class nominates a senior whom he or she believes is worthy of the title. Once the student body has voted, the faculty then chooses the winner from the top five nominated seniors.

The four other nominees for this year’s MVE award were seniors Annabelle Chang, Emily Dabbs, Audrey Mathias, and James O’Toole.

O’Sullivan succeeds last year’s recipient Thor Macht, who was known at Godwin for his unwavering school spirit and involvement in the Godwin student body.

O’Sullivan is also very involved in activities around Godwin. He is a member of the Godwin band, National Honor Society, Beta Club, and Tri-M Music Honor society.

He is also a representative of the Parent Teacher Student Association, leader of the Circle of Friends, and a three year member of the Inclusive Communities Advisory.

As a sophomore O’Sullivan was the recipient of the Hugh O’Brien leadership award.

The mission behind this award is to provide lifelong leadership development opportunities that empower youth to achieve their highest potential.

O’Sullivan is interested in studying science in college, but has yet to narrow his sights to a single school.

O’Sullivan also has taken a huge leadership role this year as SCA president.

“One thing I have enjoyed watching during Andrew’s years at Godwin is watching his confidence grow. He believes in what he is doing, he believes in others, and he knows he has leadership skills,” said principal Beth Armbruster.

Armbruster is not the only one who is proud of Andrew’s accomplishments during his time at Godwin. “I always thought it would be nice to see Andrew become the MVE,” said Kim O’Sullivan, Andrew’s mother, “I’m so proud of him, and I think him achieving this is just something really special.”

Senior administrator Leigh Dunavant said, “He is one of the most well rounded students at Godwin. He is friends with all the other students, including those in the special education class. He is a ‘get it done’ kind of person and whenever he sees a problem, he automatically begins searching for a solution.”

“If I had to choose three words to describe Andrew they would be humble, kind, and effective,” said Armbruster.
