Queen Elizabeth I visits Godwin

On Wednesday, Feb 3, the Godwin Library was graced with royalty.

A living representation of Queen Elizabeth I spoke to give a summary of the challenges that Elizabeth faced being a female ruler. “Elizabeth’s influence on history and culture resonated throughout Europe and into the New World,” said English teacher Kent Slonaker.

The actress who spoke as Elizabeth was Ms. Cydne Liffick, who specializes in Shakespearean theater education for youth in the Richmond area. Liffick’s company, Bard Unbound, holds workshops for students.

Bard Unbound has participated in youth programs at Virginia Commonwealth University as well as the University of Richmond.

Slonaker hoped that the presentation would help students learn about Elizabeth’s life as well as the culture that she created in England.
