Field Hockey:

Coach: Kayla Mueller

Last Year’s Finish: 6-8, Lost in Conference Semifinals

Captains: Ada Palczynski, Sr.; Abigail Killius, Jr.

Key Athletes: Ada Palczynski, Sr.; Abigail Killius, Jr.

Key Athletes Lost: Cameron Schwab, Taylor McDonald

Player Quote: “I think we have a really promising season ahead of us; all the girls on the team have played together for at least a couple years now and the talent of a lot of the players has built a strong program.”-Kira Spencer, Sr.

 

 

Golf:

Coach: Thomas Hoy

Last Year’s Finish: State 5A champions and Conference 11 Champions  with a 20-1 record

Captains: They do not have captains but the seniors on the team are David Qin, Cal O’Donnell, and Jacob Stansell

Key Athletes:  Diana Domenech, Andrew Kennedy, David Qin, Cal O’Donnell, Dalton Smoot, Jack Keller

Key Athletes Lost: Mark Lawrence, Colton Grow, Chris Powell, Jack Hetzer, Scott Merritt

Coach Quote: “We have a good nucleus returning but the key to our season is how well our younger players develop”- Thomas Hoy

Player Quote: “We didn’t really know what to expect this year, because we lost six seniors, four of whom were in the starting lineup. We knew that Deep Run would be our toughest competitor to repeat our state championship. So far this season we have beat Deep Run once and lost to them a couple of times, but it has been pretty even. It all comes down to the playoffs where the top two teams advance to regionals.”- Cal O’Donnell, Sr.

 

 

Girls Volleyball:

Coach: Chris Wakefield

Last Year’s Finish: Finished 23-8 and lost in the regional semifinals to Lee Davis.

Captains: Mackenzie Brewer, Sr.; Polina Bukina, Jr.

Key Athletes: Mackenzie Brewer, Sr.; Polina Bukina, Jr.; Ayanna Swan, Jr.

Key Athletes Lost: Brooke Taylor, Caroline Sisson, Navia Higgins

Coach Quote: “We have a very strong team this year so one of the things I have preached to the players is “Be humble and stay hungry”. I tell the team it’s about how we navigate our way through this whole thing, the success the failures and remain ourselves. As great as a team we have we have to continue to work hard in the gym and be discipline. And when we step on the court we have to be hungry and take care of business.”-Chris Wakefield

Boys Volleyball:

Coach: Whitney Di Frischia

Last Year’s Finish: 5th in Conference 11

Captains: Adam Smith, Sr.; Spencer West, Sr.

Key Athletes:  They are returning six of seven starters

Key Athletes Lost: Jake Parker

Coach Quote: “We have an excellent group of athletes on both JV and Varsity and are looking forward to the great seasons for both teams.”-Whitney Di Frischia

Player Quote:We have six returning starters who have all been playing together for a while so we have a lot of experience on the court every match. We also recently finished third at the Virginia volleyball showcase, and hopefully will be able to make a deep postseason run this year.”-Spencer West, Sr.

 

Football:

Coach: Logan McPherson

Last Year’s Finish: 6-4

Captains: Ben Carroll, Sr., Wesley Duggar, Jr. Liam McAllister, Sr.

Key Athletes: Ben Carroll, Sr.; Wesley Duggar, Jr.

Key Athletes Lost: Will Barney, Coleman Callaway, Aaron D’Amato, John Kastner, Ricky Lewis

Player Quote: “We have a talented squad this season and we’re looking forward to getting some quality wins,” Ben Carroll, Sr.

 

 

Girls Cross Country:

Coach: Kemper Towler

Last year’s finish: fifth in conference

Captains: Caroline Behl, Jr. and Madison Bradley, Jr.

Key runners: Behl, Johanna Lupica, So.; Lily Wein, So.; Emily Whitty, Jr.

Key runners lost from last year’s team: Maria Gergoudis, Sarah Goodrich, Najwa Labban, and Nayla Labban

Key upcoming meets: the conference and regional championship meets

Coach’s quote: “This year’s team is young.  For the first time since 1982, there are no seniors on the team.  They have worked very hard over the first five weeks of practice.  They have the potential to surprise a whole lot of teams,” said Towler.

Player’s quote: “The Godwin cross country team is just like family. We all get along really well and work together to achieve team goals,” said Whitty.

 

Boys Cross Country:

Coach: Jonathan Lauder

Last year’s finish: fifth in conference

Captains: Matt Chilton, Jr.; Stephen Tivenan, Sr.; Carter Ward, Sr.

Key runners: Chilton, Tivenan, Ward, Reid Weston, Jr.

Key runners lost from last year’s team: Zachary Dalton

Key upcoming meets: Big Cat Invitational, Colonial District meet, and the conference, regional, and state meets

Coach’s quote: “We have a strong squad this year that should be one of the better teams in the region and make it to the state meet,” said Lauder.

Player’s Quote: “We’ve got a good experienced team this year, and through our hard work and perseverance we’re firmly in position for a state berth come playoff time,” said John Hill, Sr.
