Spring and summer fashion trends

As the weather begins to warm and the sun finally begins to shine, the colors of the trees are not the only thing starting to change.  The way we dress ourselves changes, too.  Goodbye to the long pants and woolen overcoats, and hello to floral and shorts!

As we all know, the newest trends of the year start to come out during the spring.  Now the most popular and recurring themes are: floral prints, flowy blouses, and strappy shoes.  But this year, the hit fashion designers switched it up a bit:

Black and White: with all of the beautiful colors of spring blooming and brimming, some fashion designers have decided to take a backseat to nature.

Black and white combinations are both slimming and versatile.  What makes this season’s use of black and white unique, though, are the unusual and creative patterns and designs.

Shirtdresses: two of the best fashion choices merged into one.  The shirtdress can be dressed up with a belt and some jewelry or left casual with a pair of sneakers or sandals.

In a DIY sense, shirtdresses are revolutionary.  Take your dad’s old flannel and add a belt and, voila! a shirtdress.

Gingham: a print that is usually seen as a staple of the 1800s is making a comeback.  No longer is it just the red and white checkers on a  picnic blanket, but it is being incorporated onto clothing by designers like Diane von Furstenberg and Oscar de la Renta.

Bohemian Chic: a trend that has been around since the 1970s is becoming more and more popular. It has made its impact in the festival scene with events like Coachella and Bonnaroo.

Fringe and flowy fabrics with softer colors are a staple of the boho look.  Some designers have even incorporated this feel into evening wear.

Denim: denim, denim, and more denim.  This fabric can be made into anything

and everything, and it is.

Overalls, roomy jeans, skirts, and even dresses are being advertised as hot new spring and summer trend.

It may seem like these trends are hard to follow and even harder to obtain, but in reality, all of these patterns and trends can be found at local stores and boutiques.  Target, H&M, and Forever 21 carry many modern and affordable clothes that fit the trends.

“I love Forever 21, it’s so cute and I don’t have to spend my entire paycheck,” said junior Emily Minton.

So go out and get ready for a spring and summer season hot with fashion.
