Godwin seniors, Nikki Wheeler, Megan Johnson, Jasmine Jahangiri, Emily Guinn, Avery Wiley, Katelin Nolan and Caroline Sisson participated in a FEA competition this January.

Future Educators Association is a club at Godwin, as well as many other high schools, which highlights the importance of teachers aiding students who want to pursue a career in education.

The club’s members are comprised of students who wish to use their current sources and education as a tool to help them become educators in the future. The club provides opportunities for students to explore careers in education, and hopefully persuade them to pursue one in the future.

“The students gain from many different experiences- we participated in Challenge Day, Lakeside readers, Big Feet, mock interviews with HCPS, and state competitions,” said Sharon Womble, sponsor for FEA.

“Being in FEA, I have had so much hands on experience in classrooms,” said Johnson.

“Without the experience, I would not have come to love teaching, for most people view it as a low paying, and hassle filled job.”

These students took part in a competition testing their talents in which they displayed what they have learned. They were also able to “gain confidence in public speaking, to interact with other schools that have the same interest, and to meet new people and expose them to all types of education,” said Womble.

Wheeler and Johnson placed second in a tech video they prepared for the competition. Jahangiri and Guinn took fourth place in their chapter services project. Wiley, Nolan, and Sisson also took fourth place in their recruit and marketing presentation.

Because they placed second, Wheeler and Johnson are eligible to take part in the national-level FEA competition to showcase their video.

The students plan to pursue a career in education in the future, with the help of the FEA.

“FEA has helped me realize that teachers shape the future through impacting their students’ perspectives on life,” said Johnson, “I know that by being a teacher I can impact a child’s life, and that’s why I love it so much.”
