Tacky Lights Tour

The leaves are gone, and the bitter cold is here. That means it’s that time of year again, time for Christmas and the beautiful tacky lights that come with it.

Richmond has several tacky light houses worth seeing that are close to Godwin.

2.5 miles from Godwin is 9625 Peppertree Drive, Richmond, VA 23238 where you see an interesting house with lights all around it. There is a real fire truck in the driveway with the Grinch and reindeer in the driver seats.

You can even get out and walk up to it. Depending on when you go the family is sometimes out front by a fire pit giving stickers and fire helmets to kids. This house is lit from 6 pm to 10 pm daily.

1.8 miles from Godwin you can find the Thediecks’ home at 9215 Venetian Way, Richmond, VA 23229. You have to park across the lake in Maybeury Drive to see this house because only the back of the house is lit.

From across the lake the eighty-thousand twinkling lights from the house reflect onto the black lake and give a remarkable sight. The house is lit nightly so come any time through January 1 to see.

2.2 miles from Godwin is the Phifer’s home and one of the best known tacky light houses in Henrico. At 9606 Asbury Court, Henrico, VA 23229, Rose Phifer has been putting up lights around Christmas for 40 years.

She and her kids, who live next door, have close to a million and a half lights combined. Her yard, house, and roof is covered with any type of decoration you could think of, and the huge tree in her front yard is wrapped with lights all the way to the top.

The house is open from 5:15-10 pm Sunday through Thursdays and 5:15-12 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. The house will be lit till January second.

Right next door at 9604 Asbury Ct, Richmond, VA 23229 is Phifer’s children, Bobby and Bobbie Phifer.

They have just as many lights as their mother, if not more. Combined with their mother’s lights, these two houses make one of the best tacky light stops in the area.

The children’s house has everything from a big radar machine to 300 different blow molds. This is the Phifer boys ninth year putting up lights and will be open for the same amount of time as their mothers. Feel free to walk around the hous

e and up the driveway to get hot chocolate, all you have to do is give a donation to keep the tacky light tradition going.

You can go to any of these local tacky light houses, and others that aren’t listed, this holiday season to support them.
