Extra college reviews from the December issue

There is a lot of free time in college, and if you spend it properly, you can accomplish a lot of things. Doing homework and preparing for each class takes up a lot of my time, especially when I have to read the textbook for a certain class.

Naps are extremely important in college. Nothing beats a clutch nap after a morning class, especially if you have an eight A.M.

The “freshmen 15” is a real thing, especially with Virginia Tech’s food. So I go to the gym about three times a week to stay in shape.

There are a lot of extra curricular activities you can participate in in college. My friends and I started an intramural basketball team, and we practice about three times a week, and have games once a week.

I did not join any clubs for the first semester because I wanted to get get a feel for college first. I will definitely participate in clubs my second semester.

I attended many activities hosted by the Association of Chinese Students and Scholars at Virginia Tech, and plan to be a part of that program in the future.

The student body is extremely nice, and each student possesses the qualities carved on the pylons above on the War Memorial Chapel, which are Brotherhood, Honor, Leadership, Sacrifice, Service, Loyalty, Duty, and Ut Prosim [That I May Serve].

Everyone is on campus is always smiling, holding the doors open for each other, and the entire campus just has that friendly, positive vibe.

College is definitely a big change from high school, but I absolutely love it. I love the freedom, the food, and the atmosphere.

I love meeting new people, I love trying something new everyday, and I love being a Hokie.

I would say Godwin did a pretty good job preparing me for what was to come in college. I go to VCU where the academic portion of the university can be rather difficult if you don’t put the proper amount of time and effort into your work and studies, or if your high school didn’t necessarily prepare you enough for what was to come in college.

I was thankful enough to be able to attend a high school that prepared me for the stressful workload and difficult courses that I am currently enrolled in.  I have more free time here than I know what to do with. I spend my free time mostly playing soccer, hanging out with friends, exploring Richmond, and some fraternity involvement.

I have also spend copious amounts of time in thought, whether it be about classes, life, my future; I have come to the realization that time alone, spent in thought, can be some of the best time spent. What high school did not prepare me for was how much time I would have to myself. In high school you have sports, work, extracurricular activities, along with a seven hour school day. Some days I am done by 10 or 11 am and have the rest of the day to myself.  I am currently majoring in creative advertising with an intended minor of general business.

Most people assume that advertising would be in the business school, but it is a part of the mass communications department. With this being the case, I have decided to minor in business that way I am able to have a business background along with my concentration in creative advertising.

I have loved college since the second I entered my dorm room. The amount of freedom, responsibility, and fun that comes with the college experience is far better than high school. You are able to do things you never had time for in high school and have a truly remarkable experience. I am just finishing up my first semester here at VCU, and I am looking forward to another seven phenomenal ones.
