Senior art class decorates courtyard benches

Senior art students have started off the year with a new project to benefit Godwin. The class has painted all of the benches in the senior courtyard. “Our goal was to bring the importance of art into our school community,” said art teacher Glenda Shulleeta.

Each student got the opportunity to paint a bench based on the influence of an artist. After getting into groups, they picked a theme for each bench.  “They had to work as a team in order to achieve the final piece successfully, and they did a fantastic job,” said Shulleeta.

Not only did the students have to research an artist and reflect the style of the artist in the paintings, but figure out what products were best to use on wooden benches. “It was a long and frustrating process with the products we had to use and the weather, but it was worth it in the end,” said Senior Lizzie Bennett.

They have finished the benches and are ready for the seniors to enjoy their new colorful courtyard. “My classmates and I are proud to leave our mark at Godwin,” said Bennett.
